THE INTERNATIONAL GOLF CLUB EARNS "BEST NEW PRIVATE" HONOR FROM GOLF DIGEST

The Oaks named one of America's top 10 new private courses for 2002

Bolton, Mass., (Jan. 2002) - The International Golf Club, home to the world's longest golf course according to the Guinness Book of World Records, has a new distinction.

In its annual "America's Best New Courses" survey, Golf Digest has named The International's new 18-hole layout, "The Oaks," one of the country's "Best New Private" courses for 2002. The Tom Fazio design was the only course in the Northeast to make the top-10 list and is only the third New England private course to be honored since the survey's inception in 1983.

"The Golf Digest honor underscores The International's identity as a center of golfing excellence," says Brian Lynch, general manager and partner at The International. "In addition to playing the world's longest course, our members and guests can test a layout that stands second to none among private courses in the Northeast."

In July 2001, The Oaks became the first Tom Fazio-designed course to open in New England. Routed alongside "The Pines" - The International's original 18-hole layout designed by Geoffrey Cornish (1957) and redesigned by Robert Trent Jones (1972) - The Oaks features a natural blend of woods, dramatic topography changes, and distinctive waste bunkers. From the back set of tees, The Oaks measures 6,944 yards and plays to a par of 72, but the course offers multiple teeing areas for players of all skill levels.

"We knew the quality of the land offered an opportunity to create an outstanding course," says Fazio, one of the world's top golf course architects. "The dramatic elevation changes, outstanding views, lush vegetation and rock outcroppings allowed us to build a layout that's visually memorable for golfers. And because none of the land was used to build homes, we were able to focus on meeting our high expectations for the course."

In addition to The Oaks, four other Fazio-designed courses were honored among Golf Digest's "America's Best New Courses" in 2002. Fazio has designed more than 150 courses worldwide.

With The Oaks and The Pines, a par-73, 8,325-yard behemoth from the back tees, The International is the only 36-hole private golf club in New England. Because of its expansion, The International has select individual and corporate membership opportunities.

In addition to two world-class courses, The International is home to an acclaimed private golf academy and 12-acre practice area. The club's golf shop has been ranked among the top 25 private club shops in the country by Golf World Business magazine for five consecutive years.

The International also provides a state-of-the-art conference center supported by a professional conference planning staff. The conference center features a 53-room lodge and banquet facilities that accommodate up to 350 guests.

The International is located in the rural orchard community of Bolton, Mass., with panoramic views of the Nashoba Valley. Close to Interstate 495, the club is just 35 minutes from Boston. For more information, visit www.theinternational.com.
